index-server
Spotlight-like live content indexing and full-text search for Haiku OS
Description
Find files by what's inside them, not just by their name.
Type a word or phrase you remember from a letter, an email or a note, and the file shows up almost instantly, the way desktop search works on other systems. Index Server reads the contents of your files, runs quietly in the background, and keeps up with new and changed files by itself.
Open the Index Search window, start typing, and the results update as you type. Double-click a text hit and it opens at the right line.
What you get
Search inside your files: text, documents and mail, plus any format Haiku has a translator for. Install a PDF translator and PDFs become searchable too. Real search syntax: exact phrases, wildcards, fuzzy matching, AND / OR / NOT. More for Tracker to find: Index Server fills in file attributes automatically (EXIF camera and date, audio tags, media info), so photos, music and videos become findable with Tracker's normal Find and queries, without you tagging anything. Previews instead of generic icons: thumbnails for images and vector icons show up right in Tracker. You stay in control: choose which folders are indexed and switch individual features on or off in the settings.
